The version of gtags in the Ubuntu global package is 5.7.1, as shown by "gtags --version". I downloaded and built the TOT version of gtags (which is 5.9) from here: http://www.gnu.org/software/global/download.html. It does not show this problem, so that is a workaround for you. -- Crash: gtags:
