Well I just tried the Knoppix distro with Xorg 7 and the pci detection was fine, but the server didn't start until the vesa driver was tested, I'll attach the log for this. I'll try to get the log for the Ubuntu Dapper version because I got it running with the Breezy so... -- Xorg and ATI X600 -

Is it possible that you incidentially upgraded to the bad xorg package: http://www.ubuntu.com/UpgradeIssue That problem was about pci detection. Otherwise, please attach the Xorg.0.log and your xorg.conf -- Xorg and ATI X600 - RV370/380 (5B62) doesn't work https://launchpad.net/bugs/57308 --
