I can second this (for 10.04 - 10.10, and a 10.10 upgrade). I just had to reinstall an Ubuntu VM because the 'Back' button was disabled and my boot loader got messed up. It's utterly annoying, especially for something so simple. -- Back button disabled in configuration during 9.10-10.04 upgrade
