Public bug reported:

I really like compiz. I did a fresh Lucid install, and now when I turn
it on my screen is corrupted.

I'm attaching a couple of screenshots of the corruption I'm talking
about. Here is some more information:

I'm using a Thinkpad T60 with a Radeon Mobility X1300.

I've been using Compiz (or similar) on this machine for more than two
years; it's been up and down, but it's been a long time since there were
serious issues.

I used the Lucid beta for a while with no problems. Last Wednesday, I
upgraded and a different bug (I think a radeon/kms thing; I'm going to
file that bug later) caused me to try formatting "/" (but not /home) and
installing on Friday from a fresh Lucid official release live cd. This
installation process did not work the first time I tried, because screen
corruption of the sort described here rendered the process un-finish-
able. I used the nomodeset option in the livecd boot menu and got
through it.

I'm currently trying to avoid KMS with "options radeon modeset=0" in
/etc/modprobe.d/radeon-kms.conf. Adding this line worked around the
other bug I referenced above (which made my machine unusable).

Even after I killall compiz & run metacity, if I've had compiz on at
some point, I still get some corruption in text in Firefox. I guess that
could be unrelated, but it only happens if compiz has been running this
session. That's in the "metacity_corruption.png" file.
