+1 for this bug - seems like it might be worth the effort.
On a server, which has so many exposures to security threats, it is
generally recommended to limit the installed packages to a minimum.

I'm sympathetic to the idea in general, but please tell me more about
the benefits. Does the current package pull in a lot of dependencies
that you otherwise do not need?
