Same issue here in 9.10. Running "sudo rmmod e1000e; sudo modprobe
e1000e" gets me to a gigabit but it isn't perfect. This adapter gives me
issues with serving VNC. It takes around 10 connection attempts to get
in on the client.

I too am experiencing this issue with Karmic on a Dell Optiplex 980.

Just upgraded to Karmic. The e1000e still broken. Speed at 10mbps. It's
mentioned here that the driver is fixed in Lucid.

this problem is only present on jaunty kernel, with lucid everything works up
to 1000Mbit. But i have a lot of computers running jaunty here and i can't make
a migration to lucid now.
So i'm going to use my custom-kernel but i don't like this idea due to
security updates.
Here is a patc
i've just rebuild a new kernel with driver version 1.0.15 from
http://sourceforge.net/projects/e1000/files/e1000e%20stable/1.0.15/e1000e-1.0.15.tar.gz/download
and everything works fine !

Have you checked this in the latest release of Lucid? I highly doubt this
will get included in Jaunty as it is only updated for issues of a security
nature.
