Whilst the nomodeset parameter alleviates the problem it reduces
graphics performance substantially. So, I'd only consider it a temporary
workaround.
Also, I can see a number of duplicates of this issue but none provide a
real solution:

Have you looked at this thread in the Ubuntu forums:

It describes a process of fixing the suspend/hibernate issue through
bind... haven't tried it, and if you do, please post the results.

My X31 has the same problem. I set the 'nomodeset' kernel boot
parameter, which seems to fix both suspend and hibernate.
