I'm not sure if this is exactly the same problem but updating my Lucid caused a
boot error stating that /dev/disk/by-uuid/ was missing.
This was reproducable everytime with kernel 2.6.32.22.
I'm not sure what kernel I was using prior to the update but during the update
when I was prompted to keep
I could workaround this Bug by (as root)
1) editing /etc/default/grub and uncommenting the line
"#GRUB_DISABLE_LINUX_UUID=true"
2) run update-grub

I am experiencing this bug on my wife's Toshiba NB200 netbook, but it is not
occuring on my identical hardware. Software environments on the two machines
are also almost identical:
- Both started with Karmic UNR as dual boot retaining, but hardly ever using,
the supplied Windows7 starter editi

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
