Same problem for me. I have a Toshiba U305-S2804. I recently upgraded to 10.04 (via fresh install, not upgrade), and suddenly Ubuntu doesn't recognise my external mic. In sound preferences, I have no option to choose between inputs. I upgraded ALSA to 1.0.23 last night (compiled from the source).

Same here, Dell Inspiron 15, Trying to attach Rock Band microphone. There are workarounds in Audacity and the computer recognizes it, but there is no means of seeing it in the Sound Preferences. I like the Sound Preferences having the microphone because I don't have to use all of these workarounds
