Hello all,
I've upgraded from 9.10 to 10.4 two days ago, and I've enabled Plymouth, but
I'm facing the same problem: the system boots, Plymouth is running for some
seconds, then the progression bar stops and the switch to gdm does not happen.
The system is alive since if I press the power

What I can do for you about this? I am still using startx to enter my

No, per my comment #10, I have resolved my issue. It isn't clear if
what I did fixed the problem, or if only my specific issue was resolved.

However this does not work for me on my Lenovo x201s laptop. I'm using lucid
proposed gdm, version: 2.30.2.is.2.30.0-0ubuntu1 with lucid proposed kernel
2.6.32-23-generic x86_64. What does the gdm version 'is.XX' mean?
I have the exact symptom as the bug description.

The boot log shows the filesystem event has been emitted, and that
udevtrigger has stopped; and the initctl output shows that dbus is
running. Those are all the preconditions for starting gdm, so the job
should have stopped - though we don't see this in the boot log because
starting gdm will stop

When I run 'sudo start gdm' from the console after booting - I get 'gdm

Not sure if the custom.conf message is just a warning, or it if it is causing
it not to start. It looks like this bug 500377 .
I'll try the work around suggested of running gdmsetup and see if this message
goes away.

Trying to run gdmsetup doesn't work, trying to use the 'unlock' button
fails.

I took the lucid proposed update for package gdm, this seems to have
resolved my problem. I am now able to boot normally and login using

Since you're able to log in from console, the output of 'initctl list'
