Oh, and yes, the workaround proposed by Jeff works fine (thank you very much!).
After changing that packages i've just had to delete the printer and reinstall
it, choosing the driver for the Epson S20.
i will make sure i don't install unwanted updates (the packages
suggested by Jeff), for now , a
here's a screenshot of the page i was trying to print, just in case.
(i'm not sure if that is what you needed).

I have just took the packages "libgutenprint2_5.2.4-0ubuntu2" and "cups-
driver-gutenprint_5.2.4-0ubuntu2" from
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gutenprint/ and installed
them after having removed the 5.2.5 counterparts. The printer works as
before.

print the test page! :)
