Sorry, I am on fiesty so I can't really test the hplip restart. However, I do know that in fiesty for me it wasn't fixed until I used the same work-around as before. According to the steps you describe on the forums this looks like a duplicate of bug #29050. This bug was fixed in Feisty (cupsys 1.2.7-4ubuntu1), a workaround for Dapper and Edgy is to add ppdev to /etc/modules and then reboot. Are you using Edgy or Feisty at this moment? If you use Edgy do you

Alright, well I recently rebooted and low and behold the printer did not work again...what a suprise. Anyway so I retraced my steps and it seems that I have to: 1.) start /etc/init.d/hplip, otherwise the kde printing wizard doesnt see the printer :-/ 2.)Unplug the printer (from the port on the

Well I can close this bug report...I unplugged everything on the printer and then repluged everything and then tryed to add a local printer and it was on the list...I know it wasnt connected wrong because it worked in windows...but...well, it works now. Pascal De Vuyst thanks for your time :-) --

I don't see any problems in the error_log. This could be a problem with the parallel port, does the command dmesg give any errors related to lp0 after trying to print? You could try the following basic test: 1) Create a test.pnm image with e.g. the GIMP. 2) Run the following command (as root): $
