I'm using chromium and the name is not empty, so you'll never save a
file ".extension". I agree that it's a good idea for the dialog to
remember .ps or .pdf, but if you use chromium the default is .pdf. It
should be possible to choose a folder where to save all this files, like
you do with Download
I agree that it would be nice for the dialog to remember .ps or .pdf.

The same dialog is displayed on most of the applications. I think that
the right package is gnome-print.
