This bug still exists in Karmic. It affects Synaptic itself as well as
update-manager with the synaptic backend (i.e., it really is in the
synaptic backend). As kooseefoo mentioned, the scroll region is reset to
the bottom of the canvas every time the contents are updated. To

I believe the bug is in the function: void RGFetchProgress::refreshTable(int
row, bool append)
in the file /gtk/rgfetchprogress.cc. However, my gtk skills are no where near
good enough to fix this.

This bug effects me also, running the latest version of Edgy. I believe
the issue has to deal with the bottom-most package progress bar wanting
focus, so it constantly 'fights' the user.

information to this report, it would help tremendously. If you could
include the version of Ubuntu, the version of Synaptic and any
information about any desktop effects, video drivers and system specs
