I have to apologize: Please ignore this error report!
After studying the different menu.lst more carefully I think that I
found the reason for this behavior, and it is basically my own fault:
I found the following (inappropriate) lines in the menu.lst on one of
the partitions that produced the

One small correction: The "(on /amd64 dev/sda7)" at the end of the first
line is not produced automatically, but I have added this comment myself
manually.
