Public bug reported: When playing some mp3's that have deep electronic beats I would often get very strong distortion from my speakers or headset. The distortion would persist even at low volume levels and even when the PCM output volume was low. I discovered a recommendation at: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1437919&postcount=10
It involved removing the gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 package and making sure that the gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly package is installed. This worked perfectly for me and others and well. Now I have absolutely no distortion. I would recommend removing this package unless it is essential for playback of certain media types that cannot be handled by the ugly package. ** Affects: gstreamer0.10 (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged Status: Unconfirmed -- mp3 plugin causes very bad sound distortion https://launchpad.net/bugs/58545 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
