I'm not sure if this is actually an OOo bug or a Maximus bug, or just
the way its expected to work with Maximus. I am assigning this bug to
Maximus to see if someone more familiar with it can determine what
should be done about the issue.

You can unmaximize the dialog double-clicking it's title bar. Or with
right click>unmaximize.
It's not a hardware problem. It is a feature of Ubuntu netbook remix.
I agree that this dialog might be more useful unmaximized. But I don't know if
it is possible to do an exception for only one dialog.
