I've found a work around. The temperature dropt to 56C with the latest kernel
2.6.32-23-generic and proprietary ATI drivers.

Good news. The temperature stabilised around 64C (used to be 65-68C) with the
current stable kernel version 2.6.32-22-generic and the fun does not run so
often. The threshold seems around 65C for, it takes around 5sec to cool it down
back to 64C sometimes.
However, this does not happen under Win
