My problem occurs in point 5 on the https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Backtrace page: "The program will continue running. Perform any actions necessary to reproduce the crash. If the program hangs but doesn't crash you can press ctrl+c in gdb while the program is frozen and then continue with the next step."

I've struggled to get a backtrace as gdb hangs when using it against a running gnome-settings-daemon PID (not even responding to Ctrl+C), but when killing all running gnome-settings-daemon processes and then starting gdb with a new gnome-settings-daemon process, I got the following results: GNU gd
