The "correct" way of fixing this problem would be to install a dummy
package that provides mail-transport-agent.
Or, instead of a dummy package, install the nullmailer package. It's
tiny, and you can have it send your system mail to a gmail account
instead of dropping your messages on the floor.
I can confirm this on Edgy. Now I have mail transport listening on port
25 when I don't need it at all.
