So it seems that the print job does go to the printer but nothing
happens (other than a short blinking led). Nothing appears in the error
log I printed out. When I set to the OKI C5900(PS) it at least comes up
with an error complaining about paper sizes and I can press OK and it
will print. So

Your error_log does not show any problem and if I set up a printer with
the same PPD as you are using, I get correct PostScript output and my HP
LaserJet P3005 (PostScript printer) prints it correctly.
Can you turn on the function to print error pages in your printer's
front panel menus? Perhaps
I notice now I cannot print from Open Office Writer as well. Again
exporting the file to PDF and letting Adobe or Evince print it works. I
am able to print from Open Office Spreadsheet though???
