On the grub line I have somethings like that
/boot..root=/dev/hda1 ro quiet splash
I've try to set some vga=(800x600, ecc) but the bootsplash doesn't work.

In any case, I will be doing a format and a new install using the
recently kubuntu beta CD sometime tomorrow. Maybe a fresh installation
with a fresh configuration will help figure things out.

The shutdown usplash uses /etc/usplash.conf as well correct? I had a
period where I didn't have a usplash display as well when shutting down,
however, my computer would go into a sleep state almost, and wouldn't
shutdown. I take it your shutdown is normal, just without a usplash?

Confirmed with 0.4-29.
I should however note that one may only get a glimpse of the usplash
towards the end of the procedure of shutdown/reboot.
