By "the icons always stayed in the same place in the Notification area"
I meant, gnerally, starting a new application will not cause other icons
to move. I'm fine with the way the Notification area works. I'm not
fine with the way the Indicator Applet works

I know the icons will come in the same order, i.e. Rhythmbox before
Battery Power before Volume, however, the icons DO change position,
because without Rhythmbox running, Battery Power is first, Volume
second; with Rhythmbox running, Rhythmbox is first, Volume second, sound

that's not a bug, icons have fixed positions in the applet which is less
confusing for users, so you get the common icons you use at the same
position and not changing between sessions depending on the start order

Personally, I would expect the icons to align to the left and icons
should be close to each other not with all this extra space between.
Once an icon is displayed, it should stay in that place. New
applications started (e.g. Rhythmbox) would display an icon on the right

If by "setting" you mean "position on the panel" then you would appear
to be correct. If by "Setting" you mean there are some settings for
this applet that you can change in a config file or somewhere else, then
I have not changed anything.
What do I expect to happen? I expect the icons to eithe
its not a bug rather a wishlist. the setting of the panel you are using
is actually causing the problem. in normal cases there is empty space on
the left side but you have it on the right so the problem is caused by
your setting. what do you expect to happen?
