This is just a me-too. It does work with save graphics mode though.
I set it to milestone 6.10-beta because it is a regression that
affects a lot of users.

I've got this issue as well, as I've reported as #61711, boot splash is
not shown, only the blinking cursor, and it's quite long time to reach
start of gdm, very slow! Just before starting gdm by upstart, I can even
log in with getty, and I see 99% CPU usage of usplash. Booting with
kernel

I can confirm this bug on the following hardware:
AMD64 2800+ (Socket 754)
nVidia 6600 GT (AGP)
Ubuntu Version: edgy-desktop-amd64.iso (knot2)
(Used as a live environment)
Booting from the CD works,
but no splash screen on startup or shutdown.
PS: Works fine with knot1
