I am not seeing Transport endpoint not connected (since it is
connected), but:

It is not always: one out of about 8 tries works as expected.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Xubuntu better. Logs with debugging output can be useful for diagnosing
the problem. Try running sshfs with the following options:
sshfs -odebug,sshfs_debug,loglevel=debug
'remaining_options_used_with_sshfs...'
