Title:
Hey José,
Thanks for testing maverick during its development period. Unfortunately it
looks like this bug report didn't get attention during the maverick development
period. But I see there's not been more comments on the bug since the release,
which makes me wonder if this is still an issue
It turns out that I did upgrade the X packages to 1.9 (I was confused by
the 1.8.99... version number). I'm sorry Harry, your first suggestion
was right from the beginning. As far as the workaround, sadly, it
didn't work. I'm attaching the Xorg log in case it provides any useful
information. At
For all people affected, please check the latest /var/log/Xorg.0.log for
error output. For the new xserver 1.9 series the nvidia driver is
incompatible at all, see following link for a description and a
workaround: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/621003

I could not go back to a previous kernel. Could someone at least tell
me if this is possibly a bug or something that I'm doing wrong (maybe
using wrong packages)?

It could be a kernel issue. I'll try an older kernel and see if that
makes a difference. Thanks.

OK José,
The error text "failed to allocate primary buffer: out of memory" makes me
think this might be a kernel issue anyway.
Perhaps this bug started to affect you after a kernel upgrade (to 2.6.35-9 or
2.6.35.10).
You might want to try to boot with an older kernel (2.6.35-8 or older).

I find it difficult to believe that I've done something wrong, since
I've just been updating my system regularly and the drivers were working
fine a few upgrades before this bug presented itself. I wonder what I'm
missing to get this fixed. Please, anyone have any idea?

Thanks again for trying to help Harry. The 173 packages don't work
either. I do have the latest grub packages and tried the changes you
suggested with no change using the current nvidia packages or the 173
ones.

I'm attaching a copy of the xorg log of the crash. Would anyone have
any idea of what could be wrong? I'd really appreciate any help in
finding a solution to this crash I'm experiencing.

Hey Harry, thanks for the suggestions. I tried
uninstalling/reinstalling the nvidia-current package with no success. I
also tried to run the nvidia-xconfig tool, also unsuccessfully. I don't
think I'm using too recent xorg packages because I've just been updating
this system regularly. To make
Hi José,
You may have already done this, but this may help
1) do not use xorg-server 1.9 (1.8.99...), NVidia proprietary dirvers do not
support it yet
2) reinstall nvidia-current_256.35_0ubuntu2
3) run in terminal: sudo nvidia-xconfig
Otherwise,
