This happened after updating the kernel from 2.6.32.23 to 2.6.32.24 and
booting with the new kernel -- also updated the linux-alsa-driver-
modules to 2.6.3
Please reboot into the previous (working) kernel and rerun apport-

i have the same problem, but with a Realtek ALC665. Took me several
weeks to get it working after the release of Lucid, and the only way I
can get sound is by compiling Realtek's version of the alsa-drivers
(1.0.23-5.15rc5) (from here:
