Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: systemtap

Reported this upstream as http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=11870.
I attached a script that reproduces the problem and other details. The issue
proved to be fixed in SystemTap 1.3, and on further investigation applying
upstream commit 63db23df87bf6408c0947053288b771d863ecf36 ("PR11112: Check the
full %m/M buffer, and limit
the length") as a patch to the Ubuntu package fixed the issue.
