broken file (if you're the copyright owner) or a 30 second snippet that
breaks the same way (otherwise)?

Unfortunately I don't own the copyright, and when I create a 30-second
snippet I can't re-produce the problem; I'm guessing audacity is
writing new tags from scratch when exporting.
It might be worth mentioning that the MP3 files I'm trying to import
were created from CD by iTunes on Mac -- not
Could you create a test MP3 file with iTunes on a Mac that you own
copyright on, some seconds of silence maybe, or an few seconds intro of
an album you bought. It will be impossible to debug this otherwise :(
