I experience this bug with alsa-base 1.0.22.1+dfsg-0ubuntu3 and linux-
backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic (2.6.32-36). Removing linux-
backports-modules-alsa clears the problem, although in that case the
microphone input on my sound

Same issue. Haven't uninstalled backports yet; not sure what the point
is if usb audio doesn't work.
Hangs modprobe on boot or after plugin after boot. Here's the offending
line:

Can confirm someone else getting this too using a Logitech USB headset.
Uninstalling linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-generic indeed does
resolve the nasty bit of the issue. However, am unable to use the
headset in any applications after applying the workaround.

I narrowed down the issue to the linux-backports-modules-alsa-lucid-
generic specifically linux-backports-modules-alsa-2.6.32-24-generic
Once I removed the alsa backports modules from the 2.6.32-24 kernel the
cpu lockup issue did not occur.
Is this still the correct place for this bug or should
