i recently compiled and installed the maverick 2.6.35.2 kernel on a server running jaunty. i believe that i am encountering the same (or a very similar) issue. when booted with the new kernel, the server hangs with a kernel oops when lshw is run, apparently while probing the Framebuffer device.
