What about make it to do what startx on windows is doing, it is mixing
the functinality of both, i understand that there would by conflict if
i'm in the folder where is firefox file and also i have firefox
installed, but i recomend to give openvt bigger priority and if someone
want to force to use
It is ridiculous that open points to openvt instead of something like
xdg-open. I'm going to have to request a concrete example as well.
Here we are touting that Ubuntu is a user-friendly Linux distribution
and open doesn't even do what most users probably expect.

Personallly, I've been using bash alias open=xdg-open for years. It's
EXTREMELY useful and convenient. And I do really want to stress that:

If /bin/open was not specified by POSIX to have a special meaning, this very

Since the open symlink is already in use, it would be better for those
users who prefer this to mean something else to try changing it
themselves. It is possible it will cause fails in the system when

Brainstorm is an excellent place to discuss this further. As for the
current symlink being wrong, it seems to a choice that affects MacOSX
users more than others. For those who have not used MacOSX, they will
not be expecting the same function you are.
