Public bug reported:

under linux 2.6.32-21 and 2.6.32-22, my dell latitude e6500 will
properly sleep when the power cable was removed and the lid closed.

under linux 2.6.32-24, it never works. it seems to go through most of
the steps involved in sleeping, but the display never turns off. once
this happens, the computer is completely unresponsive to keypresses or
opening and closing the lid -- i have to give it a hard shutdown.

executing "/etc/acpi/sleep.sh sleep" from the command line (instead of
closing the lid) does the same thing.

this happens EVERY TIME.

i'm running with nonfree kernel modules nvidia and wl.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description:    Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:        10.04

if they are vitally necessary, i can attach the /proc/version_signature
and dmesg from 2.6.32-24, but i'd rather not boot into it (i'm using -22
right now) since the inability to put the computer to sleep kills my
productivity.
