I uploaded a possible fix in my PPA :

settings - 0.11~ppa1). Could someone test with an upgrade to see if the
bug is gone with this PPA ? Thanks.

Actually, looking at the extracted log from #2, I believe I
misremembered and the file it did not know how to handle was
/etc/alternatives/lxdm.conf, not /etc/default/lxdm.conf.

I ran into a problem dist-upgrading from lucid to maverick where the
installation of lubuntu-default-settings crapped out. The problem I
believe was that lubuntu-default-settings did not know how to handle a
preexisting /etc/default/lxdm.conf file. Deleting the file fixed the
problem and the
