It sounds like Martin and Michael's problem was a different (and not
serious) one, and this problem hasn't been reproducible by anyone else
or by the submitter, so I'd say yes, we should.

Yes, 5 is read-from-debconf and 6 is write-to-debconf.
Simon, could you boot with 'DEBCONF_DEBUG=.' on the kernel command line
and get me /var/log/syslog, please? (It'll be big.)

It's always been slow, but in Simon's log it's taking 8 minutes plus...is it
slower than it once was?
Is DMA disabled on that CD-ROM or something?

This happens only when you go through keyboard detection. I answer its
questions with 'n', 'w', 'z', and then answer No for the rest of them.
I will attach logs of running `ps faux` and strace on various processes.
It looks like `dpkg-preconfigure --apt` is hanging.

I just ran this and it paused for some time as well. ps showed that apt-
extracttemplates was working. But after a certain ait it kept going here
(this was a amd64 full alternate install with "erase harddisk").
