It is rather common for use 64bit guys to install the 32bit versions of particular packages. Firefox is one. The reason is: a lot of plugins (flash especially) simply do not exist in 64 bits. Without these plugins a lot of the web ceases to exist... Installing 32bit firefox went off without a h

You should be using the 64bit version of the pkg, which IS available: firefox_1.99+2.0b2+dfsg-1ubuntu2_amd64.deb The 32bit package is built for 32bit edgy, and expects libraries found on that particular arch. While work-arounds may work, I don't see this as a problem with the firefox deb pkg. Is
