We bumped maverick to i686; I'm not sure VIA C3 is supported anymore, as
you note it's a fake i686 lacking CMOV.

It's actually a little "funky" platform, a Via C3 processor. I bought
it years ago because of its power-conservatism.

Well the full log would have been nice, but it seems it's a SIGILL when
running the first binary in the chroot.
What hardware are you on and what architecture are you trying to

I was asking for /etc/mtab to see whether your partitions are mounted
with any special flags; please provide the full mtab, or strip only
unrelated directories like /home if you're not using that
Are you running a custom kernel?
