I have tested latest gutsy and there are still big problems with this
module r8169.

The latest driver from realtek seems to work quite good.

The 8111B on my Asus P5B motherboard works on the 10th October daily
desktop image Live CD (but that doesn't install) but the alternate CD
fails to detect it.

Agreed. My installed system now works with this card. I was looking
for mention in the changelog, but it looks like it just got fixed.
