I'm the original poster, and this is not a bug. I did not see the
prefer/defer buttons on the Phonon dialog box.
I'd close this bug if I could.

Once again the problem seems related to PulseAudio. I removed Pulse
from my system so I'm using plain ALSA. Now the entire array of input
and output devices appear in Skype and the microphone works as expected
when I select it from the list.
Nevertheless, I still cannot switch the default audio
