The fix for this patch came in via an upstream stable patch set.
Therefore I'm marking this verification-done.

Accepted linux into maverick-proposed, the package will build now and be
available in a few hours. Please test and give feedback here. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Thank you in advance!

Hi,
That has fixed it, thanks very much. Incidentally I also commented out
the previous line which seemed contradictory therefore the last two
lines of my alsa-base.conf now read:

options snd-hda-intel model=dell_desktop
I am not sure what the 'ref' option

Actually, this is not exactly fixed yet, as this manual additiol will
always be needed, unless a driver code update is made. That code change
is what I am about to do, so this won't actually be fixed until a new
Ubuntu kernel is released with the proper fix included.

Hi,
If you mean adding:
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1
to alsa-base.conf
I just tried that and it didn't work. Incidentally alsa-base.conf was
empty until I added that line.
Cheers

Here is something else you can try. Open /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
in an editor as root. On the line you previously created for snd-hda-
intel, remove the enable_msi=1 option, and adjust the line as per below:
options snd-hda-intel model=dell_desktop
Save the file, and reboot. Please report
