Haxe 3.0.0 is available to ubuntu since trusty 14.04.
I've also updated Haxe to 3.2.0 in Debian, so Ubuntu will get it eventually
(probably in 16.04).
Note that you may also manually download and install the deb file available at
https://packages.debian.org/sid/haxe

Ubuntu's upstream for this package is Debian, who removed the package
altogether in 2011. They have new builds from upstream 3.0.0 but there
is currently no stable version. Once one appears, it should not be too
hard to convince the Ubuntu maintainers to do a simple merge.

it would be nice if the haxe version could be updated to 2.10 or greater,
because the Flash 3D (Molehill) API cannot be used with the current version.
