I have the same problem.
With a 2.6.19.1 kernel, it doesn't disappear and it's very annoying.
The results of
lshal | grep ac_adapter.present
is
ac_adapter.present = false (bool)
I have a kubuntu with installed:
ii kde-guidance 0.7.0-0ubuntu4

I upgrade to new kernel version and problem dissappeared.
I suppose that kernel many time tell about unplugged AC and
kde-guidance-powermanager report it.

Interesting, it reports ac_adapter properly, so it may be some strange
bug in power-manager or ACPI reports present wrongly from time to time.
Can you Quit power-manager and start it from command line (Konsole - run
"guidance-power-manager") and report back what messages are reported (if
any) at t
