I ran both commands after logging in as myself, starting a flash video,
switching to another user, starting a flash video there, then switching
back directly to myself (this did replicate the problem). I then ran
the two commands as myself.
Looks like flash is using pulseaudio (only pulseaudio
I realized I was still on a prerelease version of 10.10, so I updated
and found the same problems occur. I also tested with Rhythmbox and got
the same behavior. No one but pulseaudio is using sounds devices in
/dev/snd/ when I check. ck-list-sessions shows the same basic output

Another bit of data. I set autospawn = no in my ~/.pulse/client.conf,
killed the current pulseaudio process and started pulseaudio -v.
I did this for both users.
Unfortunately, I didn't find anything interesting. pulseaudio logs
something like the follow regardless of whether the sound ends
This seems really odd. It's almost as if Console Kit isn't passing the
correct information. What's the output from `ck-list-sessions` for the
session(s) without audio?

Also, is Flash using pulseaudio to play back audio, or does it bypass
pulseaudio? You can check this with this terminal command:
sudo fuser -v /dev/snd/*
What's the result of this command when sound is not working?

Pulseaudio stops working when switching users
I have a similar bug :
- switching to some user is a really convenient feature,
- all of us at home use Firefox + flashplayer plugin to get sound from web
sites,
- when no audio sound is available, there is to way to get it back :
- restart GDM (a little rough)
- kill all firefox plugin
Hi Cory,
can you please open a terminal and enter this command:
grep audio /etc/group
...and paste the result into this bug? Thanks!
