(although I'm not JD) I ended up switching over to gnome-gmail-notifier, which works very well, even with Google Apps accounts and uses the built-in notification system. The only thing I miss from gmail-notify is the ability to launch a custom command when the icon is clicked (ie to open Chrome

Well, I've been using this software for about 3 years now. But thanks to it being completely broken in 10.10, and with no fix, I've now moved across (ad gotten used to) to another package, and can't see myself going back again! -- Does not check after initial launch
