Same problem here. The oldest 'new' bug for this program is dated 2008,
so I must assume it is unmaintained at this point. JD: what program did
you switch to?

which works very well, even with Google Apps accounts and uses the
built-in notification system. The only thing I miss from gmail-notify
is the ability to launch a custom command when the icon is clicked (ie
to open Chrome
Well, I've been using this software for about 3 years now. But thanks to
it being completely broken in 10.10, and with no fix, I've now moved
across (ad gotten used to) to another package, and can't see myself
going back again!

Exactly the same issue here. I did a fresh install of 10.10, and it only
checks for mail when it's initially launched. Very strange that this
wasn't picked up before release.
