We probably do need the private bit set on ubiquity logs in general.
It's not entirely unusual for them to end up containing user passwords,
either due to a bug or because ubiquity is running in debug mode.

So the issue is that /usr/share/apport/package-hooks/source_ubiquity.py
tries attaching a variety of files which are not readable as simple-
user. Most other packages with the same problem call apport's
root_command_output() to gain relevant permissions.

Confirmed this behavior on post-install Mythbuntu 10.10 RC.
Leaving as status new because I'm what this should really be against:
1. Apport, for not gracefully handling a permission problem (but if this a
unique case, is having apport handle this the right thing to do vs. some other
solution?)
The problem here is:

as casper.log is only readable by root, see my local file here:

apport should prompt for admin rights though instead of failing.
No, i think it's not related to non-installed packages.. I've just tried
to report a bug about gimp (ubuntu-bug gimp), which is not installed in
my system, and it worked fine.

yes, this problem occurs on an installed system (not live cd).

I should have noted that my report against ubiquity was done from the
live-cd environment, not a installed system.
