Hi, can you please try again with the latest lirc from zesty (a.k.a. upcoming
17.04 version), and set the status back to "new" in case you still experience
such issue?
You can also try it from my ppa, where I backported it to xenial and yakkety
releases (16.04 and 16.10)

I ran into this too. It looks like something in the upgrade broke
hardware.conf:
REMOTE=ATI/NVidia/X10 I REMOTE=ATI/NVidia/X10 I REMOTE=None II RF
Remote II RF Remote
Where the line should be:
REMOTE=ATI/NVidia/X10 II RF Remote
After fixing it, and running apt-get -f install, the configuration
The error:
Setting up lirc (0.8.6-0ubuntu4.1) ...
/etc/lirc/hardware.conf: 4: II: not found
/etc/lirc/hardware.conf: 4: I: not found
