The first stable release of GNOME Shell is available in Ubuntu 11.10
which I recommend you try. The code has changed significantly since the
preview release available in Ubuntu 10.10 so it's very unlikely that any
one is interested in trying to fix these old bugs.

I have the exact same issue only that when I come back from the tty the
system freezes almost totally only the music keeps playing and if try to
do CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE the whole system freezes and I have to use the
reset button on my PC to forcibly reboot my computer.

Problem with the attached output is that it's the output for gnome-
shell, but not mutter. I'll try to get a hold of some mutter output if
possible.

Attaching stdout and sterr from this command run on tty1:
DISPLAY=:0 gnome-shell --replace > gs.out 2> gs.err
To reproduce, I opened a few programs, and repeatedly switched from tty7
to a text tty and back.
