I reinstalled Maverick, I switched from 64bit to 32bit (I don't know if
this is relevant) and this issue disappeared.

This happens once a day, it's super annoying and it's definitely a regression
from Lucid.
I had it happen while casual browsing, or editing stuff or whatever.
Sometimes I'm able to ssh from another machine and use the sysrq magic keys
echoing characters to /proc/sysrq-trigger, but I rarely get
