Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
I have a Radeon 9200 PRO (0300: 1002:5960 (rev 01) according to lspci -n), and attempting to use the free "radeon" driver in X works fine, unless I try to use glxgears or any other 3D rendering application. In that case, X will cease responding to input, though SSHing into the machine will continue to work, and I will be forced to restart X. Under Dapper and Edgy, using this driver, direct rendering reports No, but under Dapper, the 3D apps merely run incredibly slowly, rather than requiring a restart of X if one spawns. My Xorg.0.log shows nothing interesting on this occuring: # tail -n 10 /var/log/Xorg.0.log Error opening /dev/wacom : Success (**) Option "Device" "/dev/wacom" (EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/wacom No such file or directory. Error opening /dev/wacom : Success (EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/wacom No such file or directory. Error opening /dev/wacom : Success (II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded (**) RADEON(0): RADEONSaveScreen(2) Additionally, restarting X via /etc/init.d/gdm restart fails in this case - X will not return, nor am I able to switch to console, until I restart the system. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Using GL apps with my r200 causes X to die https://launchpad.net/bugs/65620 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
