It seems like you didn't have the sources for your current kernel in the
moment the upgrade was happening. Can you install them (sudo apt-get
install linux-headers-generic) and then run:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure virtualbox-ose
in order for virtualbox to be reconfigured again? Thanks!

thanks for taking the time to look at my bug report. Unfortunately I have
moved on from version 9.10 ( currently on 10.10 ) so I am not in a position
